Connecting to MANFRED

Why should I connect?

If you are interested in utilizing resources provided by the GENI community (wireless sensor networks, programmable routers/switches, virtual machines), MANFRED may be able to provide dedicated, high-speed connectivity to these resources via our connection to the private, high-speed (10Gbps) Layer 2 backbone provided by Internet2 and the ProtoGENI project.

MANFRED has points of presence in the following Mid-Atlantic cities:

  • Washington, DC
  • Baltimore, Maryland
  • College Park, Maryland
  • Greenbelt, Maryland
  • Arlington, Virginia
  • Ashburn, Virginia
  • McLean, Virginia

The network has connectivity to the ProtoGENI backbone, as well as Internet2 and National Lambda Rail (NLR).

For more details about what kinds of capabilities MANFRED has to offer, please visit the Substrate page.

How do I connect?

MANFRED is operated by the Mid-Atlantic Crossroads (MAX). If your organization is already a MAX Participant, you may be able to leverage your existing connection. If not, you may consider connecting to MANFRED via dark fiber or "lit" service provided by one of the many carriers that we work with (Qwest, Level3, FiberGate, Verizon).

Please contact us if you are interested to discuss your options.
